I'm liking the DoT proc on Earthcaller. Sounds like something I need to get his hands on.
Here's the checklist. I will edit this post as stuff gets accomplished.
[X] I. Shiny tin bowl
[X] 1a. Note from Telin
He is near the Skyfire Entrance in Burning Woods and quite trackable. My Wood Elf Ranger had no faction issues with him, although Halfling rangers (supposedly) do. (And I don't blame him one bit.)
[X] 1b. Ring from Faelin
Faelin is very evasive. Simply wait at her spawn point (which was marked PERFECTLY on my map) killing all the Orc Pawn placeholders that wander through this immediate area (you shouldn't have to move at all), and when she spawns, don't bother to hail. She'll ignore you. Just give her the note. If you let her take off, she's apt to start running, and you may not be able to give her the note. I made the mistake of not waiting by her spawn point, and when I found her on track, she was running by the time I got to her. She didn't respond to hails and she simply despawned in mid-run.
[X] 1c. Coin from Giz
Giz is not so evasive as Faelin. He does move, but he walks only. He is a Dark Elf in a tunic. (What DE casters wear when not in robes.) As he despawns the Tier'Dal Reaver (who looks exactly like Giz) will spawn. He's a rough customer. Kite him along the walls. He was vulnerable to all spells. I made the mistake of kiting him in the middle of the zone, and I got more and more zombies joining in the chase. Eventually, I ran out of aggro range, and then tracked the Reaver again. Snare, and kite along the walls. He didn't drop anything, and for a Dark Blue con, I wasn't impressed with the experience. Killing him is not mandatory; you'll get the coin whether he dies or not. I was just wanting the experience so, I killed him.
[X] 1d. Corrupter in EK
I blew it! Bring a group for this one. I know the Corruptor is only 45th level, but BRING A GROUP! Did I mention you have to bring a group? In addition, you must bring a group.
The reason being is that while you fight the Dark Elf Corrupter, the two Reavers that spawn with him will continue to the spot where the Druids are and kill them. With the loss of the Braided Grass Amulet, I have to start the epic all over again, from the beginning.
This part takes place in East Karana and consists of four turn ins, which spawns the Dark Elf Corruptor and two Reaver adds. The four NPCs (which are all trackable) that you do the turn-ins to will assemble on one spot on the beach. This spawns the Corrupter and two Reavers. You can track your way to them, but you must stop them all. Otherwise, you don't get the Braided Grass Amulet back and you start all over.
Oh, and by the way, bring a group. (Now that I think about, it might be possible to snare or root all three of them and kill them at your leisure. But why take chances? Just decimate them all with reinforcements. A GM reimbursed me for the coin, so all I have to do is zone into East Karana, do my hand ins and the fight is on. I think it best for me to bring at least two others, at least as high as I am, so they can take out the adds. I should probably kill the Corrupter myself, so I can loot the piece. I wonder if they intended the Ranger to snare all three and kite them around.
Update: Had Inventor and Brainz stand at the spawn point. They kept all three of them busy for me. And I even arrived in time to help out. As I said, they are all fairly easy kills, even by Fusillade's standards. But you must stop any of the three of them from reaching the Druids.
[X] 1e. Bowl from Ella
The bowl you get from Ella Foodcrafter in Misty Thicket. She cons Dark Blue to me, and she's a fast moving target. Track her, and when you hail her, she'll stop running. You get the bowl when you turn in the notes from the last part of the quest. The "Shiny Tin Bowl" you get from her is a four-slot container, and requires a top slot in your inventory.
[X] II. Hardened Mixture
Not bad. I probably spent less than an hour trying to get this stuff. Combine the four items you Forage in the bowl that Ella gave you (and keep the bowl, as you will use it later).
[X] 2a. Chilled Tundra Root - Everfrost
I got this (Foraging Skill: 200) right at the zone in from the PoK book third try. I zoned in, didn't move and got it third try. Used root graphic but you get the "doesn't look edible" message.
[X] 2b. Ripened Heartfruit - Gfay
Sixth try, Greater Faydark zone in from PoK book. Uses the fruit graphic (which looks like a bunch of purple grapes) and the "doesn't look edible" message.
[X] 2c. Speckled Molded Mushroom - Innothule Swamp
Yay! First try, right at the zone in. I didn't move one inch and got it on the first Forage! It uses the Jasper graphic and "doesn't look edible."
[X] 2d. Sweetened Mudroot - Misty
I tried to get this at a certain location I read from the posts on Allakhazam. After fifth try, no luck. I went to the Druid Circle and stood in the middle of it, got it first try. Like the Tundra Root, it uses the root graphic but "doesn't look edible."
[X] III. Runecrested bowl
Combine the Ancient Pattern, Platinum Speckled Powder, and Enchanted Clay at a pottery wheel (there's one in every city). If you want to do yours in Kaladim, since that's where you'll get the last ingredient, there's one in Southern Kaladim. Just do a Find for pottery supplies and you'll see it. You'll get a "Runecrested Bowl" (no fail). This is not a container, by the way,and can fit in any of your bags.
[X] 3a. Ancient pattern
This involves speaking to an NPC on one of the islands in Timorous Deep named Alrik Farsight. These islands are on the western side and slightly to the south, which is important to a 51 level Wood Elf Ranger, whose Tracking is capped at 200. Timorous Deep is a very large zone, and he would be well out of range for my ability for most of the zone.
As a Wood Elf, and worshipper of Tunare, I was "indifferent" to him, and he wouldn't give me the response, but said I must prove myself before he would trust me. Apparently, you must be amiable. The easiest way to raise faction (Keepers of the Art) is to buy bat wings (Darius Gandril, the DE merchant in PoK in the same room as the fishing pond, sells bat wings), and give them to Niola Impholder in Southern Felwithe. (Don't ask me why, but when you enter Felwithe, Southern Felwithe is to the north of you.) She is the Magician Guildmaster in Felwithe, and you'll find her in the northernmost building in Southern Felwithe, toward the west. (Since she's the Magician Guildmaster, "Find" should work.) I bought four stacks of them. I was reading on Allakhazam that 200 should be sufficient, but another Tunare-worshiping Wood Elf Ranger advised me that he needed four hundred. (Possible explanation for the inconsistency is that I was in wolf form when I approached the NPC. According to the Allakhazam posts under this quest, the Wolf Illusion will turn you from "apprehensive" to "indifferent.")
Other factions raised with these turn ins are King Tearis Thex and Faydarks Champions. The Dead faction is lowered.
This portion is somewhat tedious, even without the necessary 400 bat wings to Southern Felwithe. But no killing involved, at least. Just going from Timorous Deep to Southern Felwithe to Northern Felwithe (Merchant Nora is trackable, by the way. She is the NPC you need in Northern Felwithe.) back to Southern Felwithe, back to Timorous Deep.
[X] 3b. Platinum speckled powder
For this, you must forage a Rose of Fironia. I used the Fironia Vie zone for my access to Timorous Deep, since it allowed me to forage along the way, hoping I get lucky. Just before my final trip to Timorous for the previous quest, I zoned in to Fironia from PoK, turned around without moving, foraged, and I found the Rose of Fironia I needed. It uses the Wax Flower/Nodding Blue Lily graphic and it gives you the "doesn't look edible" message.
This is a lot of running around. First you see Merdan Fleetfoot in Surefall Glade (From PoK, Qeynos Stone, Qeynos Hills, Surefall Glade). He's trackable. There is a Ranger Guild building in the middle of a pond in SG. He's not IN the building. He's standing on the shore with Ranger Guildmasters on the far side of the pond from the zone in. Give him the Rose of Fironia. He gives you a "wood painting." (I never saw this graphic before but it looks similar to a LoN card.) Head to Frontier Mountains (from PoK, Overthere Stone, Frontier Mountains) and give the wood painting to "a human skeleton" on the outside of the north wall of the giant fort. He despawns, you get a "silver chained locket." Head back to Surefall Glade and give the locket to Niera Farbreeze, and she will give you Platinum Speckled Powder.
[X] 3c. Enchanted Clay (requires Jade Reaver)
The Jade Reaver is an ax that drops from the Reavers in City of Mist. This item is not no-trade, so if you want to buy it or send in your high-powered toon to farm it for you, go for it. The ax will go to Kinlo Strongarm in Northern Kaladim. (He's quite trackable and is in the south eastern corner of the zone. Remember him. You'll be getting back to him.)
[X] IV. Softly Glowing Stone - hand runecrested bowl and hardened mixture to Ella
Ella Foodcrafter, the same running NPC in Misty Thicket from whom you got the "Shiny Tin Bowl." Just hail her once you catch up to her to stop her running, and give her the "Runecrested Bowl" (not the Shiny Tin Bowl) and the "Hardened Mixture." She'll give you the Softly Glowing Stone.
[X] V. Pulsing Green stone
The quest in Allakhazam says that you should speak to Foloal Stormforest in Fironia Vie first, but you don't have to. As you're coming from the caves from the PoK zone-in, he's almost directly opposite you on the far side of the zone. You'll be able to track him once you get close (if your Tracking is capped at 200 like mine is at 51st level).
[X] 5a. Kill Venril Sather
Specifically, you don't need Venril Sather. You need his remains. Venril Sather's remains will spawn 24 hours after Venril Sather is killed, whether by you or not. You'll need help to do this both times, if you're doing this at level 51, like I am. Go to Karnor's Castle (from PoK, Fironia Vie stone, Dreadlands, Karnor's Castle) and check to see if the remains are up. If the remains are up, you're in luck. You will need two things to spawn the fight. Make sure you have them, since Venril Sather is in a pit and the only way out is to gate out, unless you can succor. You need 1) the orb you conjure with the 10th level spell, "Dance of the Fireflies" and you need 2) a scroll for the spell: Resurrection. (Sold by Cavalier Waut, a female dwarf in PoK for under 11 plat.) Hail the remains, give him the orb you conjured, and then give him the scroll. And then prepare to defend yourself. Loot the Pulsing Green Stone.
The opportunity to kill Venril Sather just happened to come up, and I hadn't read far enough into the quest to know what I would need. Thankfully, Striidar has the patience of a saint and was still willing to help me get to him after I had to gate to PoK to get the scroll. I might have been irritated in his place, but he wasn't. That's what makes Keepers a special place.
[X] 5b. Get Ancient Longsword
I turned in the softly glowing stone and the pulsing green stone to Foloal Stormforest in Fironia Vie and got a Warmly Glowing Stone. I gave this to Telin in Burning Woods (the same NPC who started the quest), and got the Ancient Longsword. Looks like a decent lower level sword.
[X] VI. Soulbound Hammer - from Jaeil the insane in the hole
I remember this fight now. Lockdown had once escorted a Ranger to this spot for his epic. I didn't remember Jaeil the Wretched, specifically, but the Gargoyle I had to fight outside the pond. I was actually light blue to me, and it had almost pulped the Ranger and actually had a halfway decent chance of beating me.
As others have pointed out, the fight with Jaeil the Insane (what Jaeil the Wretched becomes once you hand him the "Shiny Tin Bowl" -- the same bowl you get from Ella Foodcrafter, which I did say earlier you would need again). The problem is getting the Ranger there. There were mobs that conned yellow and even red to me. Jaeil the Insane, contrary to what Allakhazam will tell you, is NOT level 53. He conned red to a 51 level Ranger, indicating that he is at least level 54.
This would not complete without thanking those who made this possible. My thanks to Inventor, Kyanye, Frostey, Vlaiyne and Healingraider, who escorted me safely to the spot.
[X] VII. Swirling Sphere of Color - Isle 5 in sky
This is not on Isle 5, as the write up reads, but on Isle 4. To progress that far, you need to clear Islands 1, 2, and 3. Really, that's not as difficult as it sounds. The Islands, to that point, probably have between one and two dozen mobs each. The swirling sphere of color seemed to be rather common, as it dropped off trash mobs. Not only did I get mine, but several others were able to pick some up in order to multiquest.
My thanks to all who helped me get this wonderful piece. I wish you could see how well it works for me. I was really only interested in getting the other piece, Earthcaller, because it procs a slow, along with a small DoT. And since Rangers can't slow, a slow proccing weapon will be very useful for those times I like to hunt alone. But Swiftwind, even though the stats aren't all that impressive compared with some of the gear that's available, a 40% haste is really hard to knock. I'm amazed at how well it works. I was taking on Dark Blue cons with no buffs but my own. I killed a light blue and my health didn't drop below 90%. And what a nice graphic! That sword with arcs of lightning flashing along the blade. (It beats Lockdown's ugly snake stick any day.)
[X] VIII. Hammer of Ancients
Allakhazam calls for you to show the Soulbound Hammer to Kinlo Strongarm in North Kaladim first. I skipped that part, since you give him an item, he gives it back to you, so why bother? I took it directly to Mariee Silentone, and she gave me back a "Dwarven Smiths Hammer."
The Hammer of the Ancients is what you get when you give Mariee Silentone the Dwarven Smiths Hammer and the Swirling Sphere of Color (which is a pearlescent circle in your inventory).
[X] 8a. Swiftwind
Bring the Hammer of the Ancients back to North Kaladim and give it to Kinlo Strongarm again. A second Dwarf appears, Usbak the Old. A "Small bit of Mithril Ore" appears in your inventory. Hail Usbak the Old and give him the "Ancient Longsword" that Telin gave you. He will give you back a "Refined Ancient Sword." He despawns.
Give the "Small bit of Mithril Ore" to Kinlo Strongarm and he gives you a "Refined Mithril Blade."
Bring the "Ancient Longsword" back to Telin in Burning Woods. He gives it back. Faelin appears (the same NPC that spawned in Greater Faydark after killing "Orc Pawn" placeholders, although she is not just called Faelin rather than Faelin Bloodbriar). Give her the sword and get back Swiftwind.
This will be the last time you need to return to Telin.
[X] 8b. Refined Mithril Blade
This part appears to be out of sequence. There's no reason you can't give the small bit of Mithril ore to Kinlo Strongarm before you get Swiftwind. Kinlo Strongarm is standing right there when you get the "Small bit of Mithril ore," so the turn in can be accomplished right there.
[ ] IX. Shattered Emerald of Corruption - Hate stone
[ ] 9a. Earthcaller
Here's the checklist. I will edit this post as stuff gets accomplished.
